Percentage vs Fixed Amount: When to Use Which? #
| Type | Best For | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage (%) | Higher-priced items, scaling discounts | “20% off all electronics” |
| Fixed Amount | Lower-priced items, flat savings | “$5 off all accessories” |
| Percentage (%) | When you want discount to scale with price | “$100 item → $20 off, $50 item → $10 off” |
| Fixed Amount | When you want consistent savings | “$100 item → $10 off, $50 item → $10 off” |
Pro Tip: For expensive items, percentage discounts feel more valuable. For cheaper items, fixed amounts are easier to understand.
